The Basingstoke Area Youth Wind Training Orchestra (BAYWTO) was formed in September 2001. Membership is open to any woodwind, brass or percussion player between Grade 1 standard and Grade 4. Exams do not have to be taken, and there is no audition.

During the year they take part in the annual BAYO concert at the Anvil, and perform in other concerts. The Orchestra has also run a workshop day or weekend in February.

Children join us from schools all over the area, both junior and secondary, and there are currently 60 50 young musicians in the orchestra.

At present the youngest players are in Year 4 and the oldest in Year 12. On reaching about Grade 4 standard, they may move on to the Basingstoke Area Youth Wind Orchestra, which rehearses immediately after the Wind Training Orchestra.
